Christmas Tea in April

A little card I created to go with a boxed tea set that ABA sent out to their clients as a Christmas gift. The set is from a company called My Cup of Tea, who we'd just helped as part of the British Library's Innovating for Growth Programme. We all fell in love with their beautiful high end tea and wanted to spread the word.

Personal Project: Motion Pictograms

From the first time I worked with the London 2012 brand I harboured a desire to create my own set of pictograms. Inspired by the bizarre but often beautiful photo-finish images used in the athletics events, I wanted my pictograms to capture some of the motion and excitement of the sports they depict.

Demon Doodle (Recap)

When I first started using Illustrator it took me a while to 'free up' the way I worked. I was used to painting in applications like Photoshop, Artrage and Painter, and working with vectors initially seemed restrictive. To get into a creative working groove I doodled a few sketches, starting with a blank page and a limited swatch palette. Some of the sketches were pretty hideous but I kinda liked this one.

Sea Monkey Boat Decal (Recap)

A couple of years ago a friend of mine fulfilled a life long dream of owning a boat. Before the little row boat could be launched onto the Thames, she needed a name and a personality. Inspired by her small stature, she was christened 'Sea Monkey'.

To All Things Past

As tomorrow marks the start of a new year, I thought I'd take a moment to post some older work on here. It's hard to look back at older work and not be overly critical, but every pen and ink doodle or vector experiment is a step that's brought me to where I am today.

Alexander Graham Bell

I have mixed feelings about jobs that bite that dust. On one hand you toil away at something only to have it spurned by budget cuts or some such, but on the other hand you get to create something. And can that ever truly be a bad thing?

The illustration here was created as a proof of concept for a chain of youth hostels. Each floor of each building would have a huge graphic panel telling the story of someone or something key to the hostels host city. Whilst the project never really left the ground, the illustration was fun to put together.
